Rusty Retirement Video

Project Overview:
I produced, filmed, directed, and edited a tribute video honoring a beloved SMAD (School of Media Arts & Design) professor as he prepared to retire from James Madison University. This was the first project where I served as the sole producer, handling everything from outreach and scripting to editing and delivery.

Objectives and Strategy:
My goal was to create a thoughtful and emotional send-off by gathering messages from students across multiple graduating years. I wrote the script and interview prompts, contacted former students, and compiled a wide variety of media—video messages, photos, quotes, and memories, ect.—to tell the story of the professor’s impact. The tone was warm and sincere, celebrating the professor’s legacy through the voices of those he inspired.

Production Details:

  • My Role: Sole producer, director, videographer, and editor

  • Tools: Black Magic, Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Additional Media: Student video messages, photos, quotes, and memories

Outcome:
The final video served as a heartfelt farewell and lasting tribute, receiving overwhelming appreciation from both the professor and the CHBS community. Taking full ownership of the project, I invested my own time and energy to ensure it honored the professor’s legacy. This was not just a professional achievement, but a personal one as well.
